Sens. Ossoff, Warnock Introduce Bill to Build New Ft. Gordon Child Development Center

Ft. Gordon, Ga. — U.S. Senators Reverend Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff introduced a new bill to ensure Ft. Gordon families have access to early childhood education.

Sens. Ossoff and Warnock introduced the Fort Gordon Child Development Center Expansion Act to help build a child development center on Post at Ft. Gordon

Sens. Ossoff and Warnock secured bipartisan support in Congress last year to deliver $21 million for a new Child Development Center on Ft. Gordon — offering more space and modernizing classrooms to ensure high-quality early childhood education for Augusta’s military families; however, the Department of Defense’s authorization for the project is set to expire at the end of this fiscal year.

The Fort Gordon Child Development Center Expansion Act would provide the Army a one-year extension of its authority to continue work on the project.

“I’m committed to making sure the military families on post and all who are serving at Ft. Gordon have access to early childhood education,” Sen. Ossoff said. “Senator Warnock and I wrote and introduced this bill to ensure the Army has the necessary authority to build this new child development center for Ft. Gordon families.”

“Our military families sacrifice so much for our country, and it is our duty as a nation to ensure they have the support they need. That is why Senator Ossoff and I are working to upgrade and expand child care facilities at Ft. Gordon for Augusta’s military families,” said Senator Reverend Warnock. “I will continue working to improve the living and working conditions for our servicemembers and their families across Georgia.”

Sen. Ossoff continues working to ensure Ft. Gordon’s military families have the living and working conditions they deserve.

Over the last two years, Sen. Ossoff has led several bipartisan investigations into the mistreatment and neglect of military families living in privatized housing on Ft. Gordon, highlighting the misconduct that many families faced while living in these housing units.

Earlier this year, Sen. Ossoff oversaw home-by-home inspections of the privatized housing units on Ft. Gordon.
