Sens. Rev. Warnock, Ossoff Secure Upgrades for Broadband Connectivity Across Central Georgia

Sens. Ossoff and Rev. Warnock secured more than $16 million to increase broadband and cell service access for Central Georgia

Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senators Reverend Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff secured upgrades to expand high-speed internet access and cell services for people in Bibb, Crawford, Macon, Monroe, Taylor, and Upson counties.

After successfully securing funding to increase broadband access in Lumpkin County, Sens. Ossoff and Rev. Warnock secured an additional $16.1 million to upgrade the technologies and infrastructure required to access high-speed internet services and better cell reception in nine Georgia counties.

This new funding will extend cell services and fast internet connections to thousands of people across rural Georgia.

“As I said I would, I’m continuing to deliver high-speed internet access for Central Georgia residents,” Sen. Ossoff said.

“The pandemic forced many of us to live our lives online. Hardworking Georgia families need reliable internet access for their jobs, small businesses, education, health care and so much more,” said Senator Reverend Warnock. “I’m happy that we were able to secure more than $16 million in federal investments to improve rural Georgia’s broadband connectivity. As a proud member of the Senate Agriculture Committee, I look forward to continuing to provide our rural communities with the virtual and physical infrastructure they need to stay up to speed with the rest of the state and thrive in Georgia’s bustling economy.”

Sens. Ossoff and Rev. Warnock have already secured at least $100 million in federal funding to expand broadband coverage in Georgia, as part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

The Senators also helped expand access to the Affordable Connectivity Program, which has already helped more than 350,000 low-income Georgians afford internet service. Currently, over three million households in Georgia are eligible for this program.
