Sen. Ossoff Working to Help Georgians Combat Soaring Rent Costs

Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is helping Georgia families who are struggling with soaring rent costs.

Sen. Ossoff worked with Republicans and Democrats to increase funding for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Tenant-Based Rental Assistance program to help Georgians afford housing.

Through the government funding legislation that became law on February 3, Tenant-Based Rental Assistance will receive a $2.39 billion increase in funding to help individual households afford housing. The program offers support to those struggling to afford housing and rent.

“Bringing Republicans and Democrats together, we’re delivering vital resources to help Georgia families afford their rents,” said Sen. Ossoff. “I will continue to fight to make housing affordable for every Georgia family.”

Sen. Ossoff continues working to increase the supply of affordable housing and protect Georgia renters.

Last May, Sen. Ossoff launched inquiries with several of the top companies nationwide that are purchasing single-family homes across the State of Georgia, raising prices for families and reducing the supply of family homes available for purchase.

Last March, Sens. Ossoff and Ashley Moody (R-FL) introduced the bipartisan HELPER Act of 2025, which would establish a new home loan program under the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) to help law enforcement, fire fighters, medical first responders, and teachers purchase homes in the communities they serve.

In November 2024, Sens. Ossoff and Marco Rubio (R-FL) introduced the bipartisan Veterans Home Loan Fairness Act to help veterans and their families qualify for home loans through the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

In August 2024, Sen. Ossoff also introduced the Access to Homeownership Act to require landlords that receive financing through the Federal government, including through Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac, for multifamily properties like apartment buildings to offer tenants the ability to have their on-time rental payments reported to credit bureaus.

In 2021, Sens. Ossoff and Warnock announced $140 million in federal investments to support affordable housing and strengthen housing options for low-income families across Georgia.
