Sen. Ossoff Delivering Resources to Upgrade Albany YMCA

Albany, Ga. — U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is upgrading facilities for families and kids at the YMCA in Albany.

Today Sen. Ossoff announced he is delivering new resources to help renovate the Albany YMCA’s basketball gym and indoor pool, improving facilities for families across Southwest Georgia.

Sen. Ossoff brought Republicans and Democrats together to deliver $240,000 for the project through this year’s bipartisan government funding package.

“Albany families and children enjoy the Albany YMCA every day. That’s why I brought Republicans and Democrats together to upgrade facilities at the Albany YMCA. I thank Albany YMCA President and CEO Dan Gillan for bringing this proposal to my office and for his leadership in the community,” Sen. Ossoff said.

“On behalf of our Albany Area YMCA, I am grateful for the support demonstrated by Senator Ossoff and his team for our Congressionally Directed Spending request of $240,000. This is a game-changer for our YMCA and our community,” Albany YMCA President and CEO Dan Gillan said. “Our courts and swimming pool were built in 1963, and there has never been climate control or changes to pool plumbing since that time. Senator Ossoff saw first-hand the need and the positive impact the YMCA has in our community. To be able to provide HVAC in our basketball courts means 40 to 80 plus teens and adults every day will have a temperate environment to play basketball. Our YMCA is a place of community, and the parents and families of the kids who compete in our youth basketball programs will no longer be sweltering in the summer and freezing in the winter months while watching their kids play ball. Similarly, the pool is where over 400 kids and adults learn to swim every year, and over 35 senior adults participate in water aerobics every day, and people of all ages work to maintain an active lifestyle through recreational and exercise swimming. These activities promote the mission of our YMCA to put into place Christian principles to build a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.”
