Sen. Ossoff Delivering Resources to Expand LaGrange College’s Nursing Program

LaGrange, Ga. — U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is delivering resources to expand nursing training in West Georgia.

Today Sen. Ossoff announced he is delivering Federal funding to strengthen and expand LaGrange College’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Program to serve more students. With the funding, LaGrange College plans to purchase updated equipment and renovate facilities to create a more immersive teaching environment and increase its overall capacity.

According to a recent study, the State of Georgia is projected to have the second-largest shortage of registered nurses nationwide by 2035, and Georgia currently has 21% fewer registered nurses than are needed.

Sen. Ossoff brought Republicans and Democrats together to deliver $214,000 for the project through this year’s bipartisan government funding package, working alongside Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock.

“Georgia continues to face a critical nursing shortage. Bringing Republicans and Democrats together, I’ve appropriated funds to LaGrange College for an expansion of its nurse training programs,” Sen. Ossoff said. “I thank LaGrange College President Dr. Susanna Baxter for bringing this proposal to my office and for her leadership in the community.”

The funding will have a far-reaching impact, according to Dr. Baxter.

“We are eager to use these funds to prepare more nurses to serve our state,” she said. “The classroom innovations and upgrades this grant furnishes will allow us to provide advanced learning that better simulates a real-world setting. It will make a huge difference to an expanded cohort of students.

“We are grateful to Senators Ossoff and Warnock for supporting this initiative throughout the appropriations process and for helping us send more nurses into the field.”
