Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is backing bipartisan legislation to help blind Georgians afford Braille readers and other specialized technology.
Sen. Ossoff is backing the bipartisan Access Technology Affordability Act of 2025 to help make specialized reading and other technology, like Braille readers, more accessible by creating a refundable Federal tax credit to help cover the cost.
The bipartisan legislation, first introduced by Sens. John Boozman (R-AR) and Ben Ray Luján (D-NM), would create a tax credit of up to $2,000 over a three-year period for individuals with visual impairments to purchase these technologies.
“Blind Georgians don’t deserve to be excluded from classrooms, workplaces, or communities because specialized technologies are too expensive,” said Sen. Ossoff. “I am working with Republicans and Democrats in Congress to make this specialized technology more affordable.”
Sen. Ossoff continues working to support Georgians with disabilities.
Last month, Sen. Ossoff, who serves as Ranking Member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Military Construction and Veterans Affairs, sought answers from Veterans Affairs Secretary Doug Collins following a proposed rule that would have placed benefits for disabled veterans in Georgia and across the nation at risk.
In April 2025, Sen. Ossoff launched a push to pass the bipartisan Ensuring Nationwide Access to a Better Life Experience (ENABLE) Act, legislation he cosponsored to extend tax benefits for people with disabilities and help them save for future expenses.
Last January, Sens. Ossoff and Eric Schmitt (R-MO) passed into law their bipartisan Think Differently Database Act, which will direct the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to build a comprehensive website that provides information and resources available to Georgians with disabilities.
