Sen. Ossoff Delivering Resources to Support Domestic Violence Victims

Decatur, Ga. — U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is delivering resources to support victims of domestic violence in DeKalb County.

Sen. Ossoff brought Republicans and Democrats together to help provide shelter and services to victims of domestic violence.

Sen. Ossoff is delivering funding to the Women’s Resource Center to End Domestic Violence, which provides shelter and services to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in DeKalb County. This new funding will be used to fund their Legal Advocacy Program, which helps survivors access legal protections such as Temporary Protective Orders to increase their safety and the safety of our communities.

Sen. Ossoff is delivering $372,000 for the project through bipartisan government funding legislation that became law on January 23.

“Resources are lacking to address the domestic violence crisis in the State of Georgia and to help victims and survivors of domestic violence,” Sen. Ossoff said. “That’s why I’m delivering substantial new resources to strengthen programs that support survivors.”

“We are deeply grateful to Senator Ossoff for championing this critical investment in survivor safety through Congressionally Directed Spending,” said Jean Douglas, CEO of the Women’s Resource Center to End Domestic Violence. “This funding will ensure that thousands of survivors of domestic violence or sexual assault are not forced to navigate the legal system alone. Our legal advocates stand beside survivors at some of the most frightening moments of their lives, helping them secure protective orders, access justice, and rebuild safety for themselves and their families. Senator Ossoff’s leadership will have a direct, life-saving impact on our community by preserving access to trauma-informed legal advocacy at a time when these services are more essential than ever.”
