WATCH: Sen. Ossoff Delivers Remarks as Historic Georgia Judicial Nominees Pass Senate Judiciary Committee with Bipartisan Support

Sens. Ossoff & Warnock recommended Victoria Calvert & Sarah Geraghty to President Biden

Washington, D.C. –– This morning, the Senate Judiciary Committee voted to advance U.S. Senators Jon Ossoff and Reverend Raphael Warnock’s historic nominees for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia.

Victoria Marie Calvert and Sarah Elisabeth Geraghty’s nominations received bipartisan support and will now receive a final vote on the Senate floor.

Sens. Ossoff and Warnock have been longtime advocates for a diverse judiciary. Calvert would become the second Black female judge for the Northern District of Georgia and the first former federal public defender to become a district court judge in Georgia. Geraghty would become the first civil rights attorney to become a district court judge in Georgia.

“I’ve had the pleasure of speaking with several of my colleagues on both sides of the aisle about Ms. Calvert’s nomination. As we’ve discussed, she’s highly qualified, committed to upholding the rule of law without fear or favor or ideology, and I would humbly ask my colleagues on both sides to vote to report her favorably to the floor,” Sen. Ossoff said in the markup.

“Once again, [Sarah Geraghty is] an outstanding nominee for the Northern District of Georgia. Again, I’ve spoken with several of my Republican colleagues about her high qualifications, her commitments to the rule of law, and her outstanding track record and humbly ask the Committee to move forward and report her nomination favorably,” Sen. Ossoff continued in the markup.

In March, Sens. Ossoff and Warnock formed a historic Federal Nominations Advisory Commission to review applicants for open Federal judicial, U.S. Attorney, and U.S. Marshall positions in Georgia.
