U.S. Senate Confirms Victoria Marie Calvert to U.S. District Court for Northern District of Georgia with Bipartisan Support

Sens. Ossoff & Warnock recommended Victoria Calvert to President Biden

Calvert will become the second Black female judge for the Northern District of Georgia

Washington, D.C. –– Tonight, the U.S. Senate confirmed one of U.S. Senators Jon Ossoff and Reverend Raphael Warnock’s historic nominees for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia.

Victoria Marie Calvert received bipartisan support and will become the second Black female judge for the Northern District of Georgia.

“I’m pleased to announce the Senate has confirmed Victoria Calvert to serve as a Federal judge for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. Senator Reverend Warnock and I recommended Ms. Calvert for this Federal judgeship, and I appreciate President Biden’s confidence in our recommendation and the support of the Senate for her confirmation,” Sen. Ossoff said. “I wish Ms. Calvert and her family the best upon her confirmation.”

“I’m glad that the U.S. Senate just confirmed Victoria Calvert to the Northern District of Georgia. She is a highly qualified jurist who has earned widespread respect across the state, and bipartisan support in the U.S. Senate. Her impressive professional experience, which includes serving as a federal public defender, brings much-needed diversity to the Northern District bench that will help ensure Georgians get the justice they deserve. I am proud to have supported her nomination and confirmation,” Senator Reverend Warnock said.

In March of 2021, Sens. Ossoff and Warnock formed a historic Federal Nominations Advisory Commission to review applicants for open Federal judicial, U.S. Attorney, and U.S. Marshall positions in Georgia.

President Biden accepted Sen. Ossoff and Sen. Rev. Warnock’s recommendations and nominated Calvert to serve on the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia in September.

Calvert also received bipartisan support in the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee earlier this year.
