Sen. Ossoff Delivering Resources to Help Establish Muscogee (Creek) Nation Cultural Center

Macon, Ga. — U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is delivering new resources to help establish a new cultural center for the Muscogee (Creek) Nation in Middle Georgia.

Today Sen. Ossoff announced he is delivering Federal funding to help transform the historic Dewitt-McCrary house into a cultural center and headquarters for the Muscogee (Creek) Nation.

This project is part of ongoing work between Macon-Bibb County and the Nation and would allow the Nation to have a base of operations in Macon, part of its ancestral lands, for the first time since removal.

Sen. Ossoff brought Republicans and Democrats together to deliver $310,000 for the project through this year’s bipartisan government funding package.

“Bringing Republicans and Democrats in Congress together, we’re helping support Macon-Bibb County’s ongoing efforts to celebrate and honor the history of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation with a new cultural center,” Sen. Ossoff said.

“The UDA is thrilled to receive this crucial funding for the Muscogee Cultural Center in East Macon. We believe in this act of reconciliation and restoring a physical presence for the Nation in their ancestral homelands and hope that it will provide a spark of healing and economic regeneration for the entire area, as we have been working to do for the last decade with the Mill Hill Project and as close partners with ONPPI,” said Alex Morrison, Director of Planning and Public Spaces for Macon-Bibb County.
