WATCH: Sen. Ossoff Pushing to Improve Quality of Life at Robins AFB

Sen. Ossoff secures commitment from U.S. Air Force to prioritize new child development center for Robins AFB

Robins AFB, Ga. — U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is pushing to improve quality of life for military families at Robins Air Force Base.

Sen. Ossoff, Ranking Member of the U.S. Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Military Construction, today held a hearing about funding priorities for military construction projects and highlighted the need to improve quality of life on Georgia’s defense installations, including at Robins.

Sen. Ossoff serves as the top Democrat on the Military Construction Appropriations Subcommittee, positioning him to fight for and deliver Federal funding for key Georgia projects impacting national security, military readiness, quality-of-life for servicemembers and military families, and more.

During the hearing, Sen. Ossoff raised concern that funding for a new Child Development Center (CDC) at Robins AFB was not prioritized in the President’s budget request, but he secured a commitment from Lieutenant General Kenyon Bell, Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics, Engineering, and Force Protection, United States Air Force, to prioritize funding for the project in the future.

“Robins, as you’re well aware, headquarters for the Air Force Reserve Command and the Warner Robins Air Logistics Complex, providing absolutely essential logistics, maintenance and combat support capabilities, something Georgians are deeply proud of. It’s the largest single site industrial complex in Georgia, employing a workforce of nearly 22,000 civilians, contractors, and servicemembers,” Ranking Member Ossoff said. “I noticed that a new child development center project at Robins was placed on the unfunded priorities list instead of being included in the budget request.  Lieutenant General Bell, given the historically high funding request for the Air Force this year, why was this project not prioritized in the baseline budget request?”

“I am committed to you with working as we go forward to make sure that the CDC there at Robins gets prioritized as it should,” Lieutenant General Bell said.

“In order for the servicemembers of this facility to do their jobs and to have confidence their families are cared for, we need these child development centers to be built, and so I look forward to working with you, General, to try to accelerate the construction of this important facility,” Ranking Member Ossoff continued.
