Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff today secured a commitment from the U.S. military to help build a new communications facility at Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany.
Sen. Ossoff, Ranking Member of the U.S. Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Military Construction, today held a hearing about funding priorities for military construction projects and highlighted key projects in Georgia, including the need for a new communications facility at MCLB Albany.
In 2023, Sen. Ossoff brought Republicans and Democrats together to deliver $6.4 in planning and design funds for the project, which would provide the installation with a dedicated communications facility to more efficiently support the vital Marine Corps logistics mission, and Sen. Ossoff later secured a key authorization for the project in Fiscal Year 2024.
Sen. Ossoff serves as the top Democrat on the Military Construction Appropriations Subcommittee, positioning him to fight for and deliver Federal funding for key Georgia projects impacting national security, military readiness, quality-of-life for servicemembers and military families, and more.
During the hearing, Sen. Ossoff spoke with Vice Admiral Jeffrey T. Jablon, Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Installations and Logistics for the United States Navy, and raised the importance of MCLB Albany to Southwest Georgia, the State of Georgia, and the entire nation.
“Admiral Jablon, as you know, Albany, Georgia hosts Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany, which is essential to Marine Corps’ readiness and sustaining expeditionary combat power for the Marines,” Ranking Member Ossoff said. “In FY23, I worked alongside the Marine Corps Logistics Base leadership and the Albany community to help secure planning and design funding for a new consolidated communications facility at the Logistics Base to more efficiently support the vital Marine Corps’ logistics mission there.”
“My question for you is, will you work with me to ensure that we move swiftly to construction for this project? Again, we’ve already funded planning and design. It’s the top priority for the facility and the community,” Ranking Member Ossoff continued.
Sen. Ossoff secured Vice Admiral Jablon’s commitment to work with him, the Subcommittee, the community, and MCLB Albany leadership to accelerate for the project toward construction.
