Marietta, Ga. — This past weekend, U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff led Georgia’s Congressional Delegation in hosting Military Service Academy Day at Dobbins Air Reserve Base in Marietta.
Military Service Academy Day gives high school students and their families the opportunity to learn more about the application and nomination process for the five U.S. Service Academies. Students and families were able to meet with representatives from all five academies, along with ROTC representatives from the Air Force, Navy, Army, and Marine Corps.
The event, the largest of its kind, was a one-stop shop for Georgia students interested in joining the military. Attendees heard directly from Sen. Ossoff and Congressman Hank Johnson on their role in the process, and representatives from the five Service Academies gave background on the schools and explained the application process.
This year’s Academy Day drew in close to 1,000 participants.
“Just by being here right now, you’ve taken the first step toward joining in the tradition of generations over centuries of leaders who have helped guide and protect this nation through some of the most intense and fearsome trials in world history. And the world is changing in profound ways as we speak. The ground is shifting under our feet, and now more than ever, the United States needs the very best; the most committed; the most committed to excellence, the most selfless, to help lead the defense of our nation,” Sen. Ossoff said.
