Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff’s amendment to stop Georgians’ health insurance premiums from increasing was blocked by Senate Republicans.

Sen. Ossoff offered an amendment during the Senate’s budget debate to extend key Affordable Care Act tax credits, without which Georgians would see giant increases in health care costs.

According to Georgians for a Healthy Future, if the ACA tax credits expire — as they would in the GOP’s bill — over 1 million Georgians could see their premiums increase next year.

According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, over 300,000 Georgians who have health care through the ACA could lose insurance altogether because they won’t be able to afford the increase.

However, Sen. Ossoff’s amendment to stop Georgians’ health insurance premiums from increasing was blocked by Senate Republicans.

“Instead of adding trillions to the debt in tax cuts for the rich while destroying Medicaid and renewable energy, I propose we help our constituents afford health insurance,” Sen. Ossoff said. “If we allow Affordable Care Act benefits to expire — as this bill would — more than a million Georgians will pay more for health insurance next year.”

Estimates show an average family of 4 in Georgia with 2 kids would see an increase of thousands of dollars in health insurance without the ACA credit.

For example:
