Atlanta, Ga. — U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is delivering resources to Clark Atlanta University to strengthen prostate cancer research.
Sen. Ossoff brought Republicans and Democrats together to deliver Federal funding to strengthen Clark Atlanta University (CAU)’s prostate cancer research. Clark Atlanta University plans to use the Federal funding to strengthen their research and education programs that focus on the early detection and treatment of prostate cancer for Black Georgians.
Studies have found 1 in 6 Black men will develop prostate cancer in their lifetime, compared with 1 in 8 men overall.
Sen. Ossoff is delivering $850,000 for the project through bipartisan government funding legislation that became law on February 3.
“Clark Atlanta’s cutting-edge research helps save lives and develop new treatments for prostate cancer, which studies have found has a disproportionate impact on Black men,” Sen. Ossoff said. “Bringing Republicans and Democrats together, I’m delivering this Federal investment to strengthen Clark Atlanta’s vital work.”
“Senator Ossoff’s leadership in securing this critical Federal investment demonstrates a profound commitment to addressing a disease that affects all men, and disproportionately impacts Black men in Georgia and across the nation,” said Dr. George T. French Jr., president of Clark Atlanta University. “This $850,000 in funding will significantly strengthen our capacity to advance groundbreaking prostate cancer research, enhance early detection methodologies, and develop more effective treatment protocols. At Clark Atlanta University, we are dedicated to leveraging our research expertise and community partnerships to combat this devastating disease and improve health outcomes for the populations we serve. We are deeply grateful to Senator Ossoff for his bipartisan leadership and unwavering support of our mission to save lives through innovative research and education.”
