Sen. Ossoff Pushing to Restore Financial Aid for Morris Brown Students

Push comes as part of Sen. Ossoff’s efforts to help restore Morris Brown to full accreditation

Sen. Ossoff has already delivered over a quarter of a billion dollars to Georgia HBCUs this year

Atlanta, Ga. — U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is working to help Morris Brown College students get financial aid to afford tuition.

Sen. Ossoff today called on the Biden Administration to restore Federal financial aid eligibility for current and future Morris Brown students, a key step toward rebuilding a full student body as the college works toward reaccreditation.

“I urge you to accept Morris Brown College’s application for participation in Federal financial aid programs,” Sen. Ossoff wrote to Education Secretary Cardona. “These financial aid programs, like the Federal Pell Grant, are vital to ensuring more students will be able to attend and complete a degree at Morris Brown College.”

Sen. Ossoff previously called on Sec. Cardona to make Morris Brown eligible for American Rescue Plan funding, which would unlock key resources to accelerate its full reopening.

Sen. Ossoff is a long-time champion of Morris Brown College.

During his campaign for U.S. Senate, he pledged to deliver funding for Morris Brown to restore full accreditation with a full student body.

“I want to pledge to you, Mr. President, that as Georgia’s United States Senator, I’ll be at your fingertips,” Sen. Ossoff said in December 2020 at Morris Brown College. “I’ll work tirelessly to deliver the resources that this institution needs, not just to get back to where it has been, but to achieve higher and higher heights.”

Already this year, Sen. Ossoff has delivered over a quarter of a billion dollars to Georgia’s HBCUs.

He is also working to pass legislation to boost cybersecurity and national security programs at HBCUs in Georgia and across the country.
