Sen. Ossoff Delivering Resources to Help Improve Water Quality for Coastal Georgia Families

Savannah, Ga. — U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is delivering new resources to help improve water quality for Coastal Georgia families.

Today Sen. Ossoff announced he is delivering new Federal funding to Georgia Southern University to help address current challenges to water resources posed by Coastal Georgia’s rapid population growth and economic development, aging infrastructure, longstanding presence of natural and man-made contaminants, and saltwater intrusion into the aquifer.

The project will help support a public health research and education program designed to ensure sustainable access to safe water among Coastal Georgia communities.

Sen. Ossoff brought Republicans and Democrats together to deliver $2,040,000 for the project through this year’s bipartisan government funding package, working alongside the Institute for Water and Health at Georgia Southern University (IWH).

“All Georgia families need and deserve access to clean water. Working alongside Congressman Buddy Carter and Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock, we brought Republicans and Democrats together to support ongoing research at Georgia Southern to expand access to clean water with innovative new technology,” Sen. Ossoff said. “I thank Georgia Southern for bringing this proposal to our offices and for its leadership.”

“The Safe Water Together project fosters collaboration among a range of stakeholders, from municipalities to local communities, to enhance water quality through research, education, and innovative diagnostic techniques. We extend our gratitude to Senator Ossoff for his support of the Safe Water Together initiative. His advocacy in the Senate has been instrumental in advancing this project, which will allow Georgia Southern to further our outreach and impact for the benefit of coastal Georgia communities and the broader Southeast region of Georgia,” said Georgia Southern University President, Kyle Marrero.
