Sen. Ossoff Announces Legislation to Help Industrial Sector Transition to Energy-Efficient Technology & Reduce Carbon Emissions

Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is working to help the industrial sector improve operations and lower carbon emissions with new, energy-efficient technology.

Sen. Ossoff is introducing the Industrial Energy-Efficient Technology Act to help increase industrial manufacturing competitiveness, reduce energy costs, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and create good-paying jobs.

“My legislation will strengthen collaboration between government and industry to accelerate private sector energy efficiency and emissions reduction efforts,” Sen. Ossoff said.

The bill would help facilities improve operations and install innovative energy-efficient technology that reduces carbon emissions.

It would also fund a new program at the state level that helps facilities implement other energy efficient practices.

Rep. Paul Tonko (NY-20), who has led efforts in the House to boost domestic manufacturing competitiveness, introduced companion legislation included in Sen. Ossoff’s bill in the U.S. House of Representatives.

“The industrial sector accounts for a quarter of our greenhouse gas emissions, and it’s critical that we invest in helping it decarbonize,” said Steven Nadel, Executive Director of the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE). “Senator Ossoff’s Industrial Energy-Efficient Technology Act would invest in advanced industrial process technologies and help industrial facilities better manage energy to reduce costs and greenhouse gas emissions. These would be wise investment for our climate and for supporting low-carbon industry.”
