NEWS: Sens. Ossoff, Rev. Warnock Delivering Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Funding to Port of Brunswick

Port of Brunswick is 2nd busiest nationwide for roll-on/roll-off cargo, like cars & trucks

Brunswick, Ga. — U.S. Senators Reverend Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff today announced new upgrades to the Port of Brunswick through the bipartisan infrastructure law.

Sens. Ossoff and Rev. Warnock are delivering $15 million through the U.S. Department of Transportation to help upgrade infrastructure at the Port of Brunswick — improving operations, creating economic opportunities, and strengthening Georgia’s supply chains.

According to the Georgia Ports Authority (GPA), the bipartisan infrastructure law funding will help GPA renovate and upgrade the East River Terminal — a project that includes demolishing and replacing the Berth #2 Main Dock, replacing half of Berth #3, and improving other infrastructure around the Terminal. According to GPA, the project is estimated to be completed by 2027.

“These upgrades to the Port of Brunswick will strengthen supply chains and support opportunity and prosperity in coastal Georgia and statewide. The bipartisan infrastructure law — the most significant investment in America’s infrastructure since the Eisenhower Administration — continues to upgrade transportation, water, broadband, and energy infrastructure across our state,” Sen. Ossoff said.

“I am thrilled to see the Brunswick community continue to benefit from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Senator Ossoff and I championed. This latest investment of more than $15 million in federal funds will provide critical infrastructure upgrades for the Port of Brunswick to ease vessel traffic and the flow of commerce at a major economic hub for our state,” said Senator Reverend Warnock.

“We want to express our appreciation to Senators Ossoff and Warnock, Congressman Carter, Governor Kemp and the entire Georgia delegation for their support in achieving this Federal grant. Thanks to their leadership efforts, this $15 million Federal grant will enable Georgia grown forest products and other commodities to compete stronger in world markets through a competitive port,” said Jamie McCurry, Georgia Ports’ Chief Administration Officer.  “These are exciting times for the Port of Brunswick’s growth as a national gateway with investments including $17.5 million in planned harbor improvements by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers along with $262 million in facility upgrades and expansions by the Georgia Ports Authority.”

“The City of Brunswick is a national economic hub, and Senators Ossoff and Warnock are helping ensure we continue to grow. This grant through the bipartisan infrastructure law will create good paying jobs in our community and help take Georgia’s economy to new heights. On behalf of Brunswick, I thank them for delivering these Federal resources to our community,” said Brunswick Mayor Cosby H. Johnson.

Sen. Ossoff continues working to upgrade infrastructure and safety at Georgia’s ports.

In 2022, Sens. Ossoff and Warnock’s Port of Brunswick Navigation Channel Improvement Act was signed into law to make upgrades to the Port’s navigation channel, helping increased shipping traffic safely navigate the Port.

Last July, Sen. Ossoff helped pass the bipartisan Securing America’s Ports of Entry Act through the U.S. Senate Homeland Security & Governmental Affairs Committee, which would address personnel shortages at ports of entry.

Last May, Sen. Ossoff and EPA Administrator Michael Regan announced a historic $4 billion investment in clean energy infrastructure at ports in Georgia and nationwide.
