Following Push, Sen. Ossoff Secures Additional Funding for Georgia Hospitals

$25.5 billion for hospitals in Georgia and nationwide

$8.5 billion included for rural hospitals

Atlanta, Ga. — U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff has secured vital funding for hospitals across Georgia amid the recent surge in COVID-19 cases.

Last month, Sen. Ossoff urged Sec. Xavier Becerra and the Department of Health and Human Services to swiftly allocate COVID relief funding to rural clinics and hospitals as well as safety net hospitals — such as Grady Memorial Hospital — citing the rise in COVID-19 cases and the strain on hospitals across the state of Georgia.

Following Sen. Ossoff’s push, Sec. Becerra today announced they are making $25.5 billion in new Provider Relief Funding available for health care providers and hospitals affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

This funding includes $8.5 billion in American Rescue Plan resources for providers who serve rural Medicaid, Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), or Medicare patients and $17 billion for theProvider Relief Fund for a broad range of providers who can document revenue loss and expenses associated with the pandemic.

“I called for this funding because Georgia’s hospitals urgently need additional resources amidst the surge of the COVID-19 Delta Variant. I’m grateful to Secretary Becerra for heeding my calls to ensure hospitals in Georgia and nationwide receive this support. I remain grateful to our heroic health care workers for their dedication and continue to urge all Georgians to get vaccinated as soon as possible,” Sen. Ossoff said.

Sen. Ossoff continues to deliver for Georgia health care facilities, previously securing over $143 million for Georgia’s community health centers across the state through the American Rescue Plan.
