Sen. Ossoff previously urged the Trump Administration to unfreeze Federal funding that supports after-school programs across Georgia
Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff has successfully pushed to restore funding for Georgia after-school programs.
Earlier this month, Sen. Ossoff joined a group of colleagues urging the Trump Administration to unfreeze Federal funding that supports after-school programs across Georgia.
Now, following Sen. Ossoff’s pressure, the Trump Administration is reversing course andreleasing more than $200 million in Federal funding for Georgia’s after-school programs through the 21st Century Community Learning Centers program.
According to a report by WABE, the previously frozen funding made up approximately 14.8 percent of Federal funding that Georgia receives through the U.S. Department of Education.
“These funds, which represent longstanding investments in K–12 and adult education, support a wide range of priorities such as teacher recruitment, afterschool programs, English learner instruction, school-based mental health services, academic enrichment, and adult education and family literacy,” Sen. Ossoff and the group previously wrote.
Sen. Ossoff continues working to support Georgia students and schools.
Last month, Sen. Ossoff held a hearing about funding priorities for military construction projects and highlighted key projects in Georgia, including the need to build a replacement for Dexter Elementary School, which was built in 1968.
In April, Sens. Ossoff and Todd Young (R-IN) introduced the bipartisan Youth Sports Facilities Act to help build and upgrade sports facilities across Georgia, giving kids and families safe spaces to play while also supporting student mental health and boosting economic growth.
In March, Sens. Ossoff and Rev. Warnock urged Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Lee Zeldin to honor Federal rebates awarded to school districts in Baldwin and Clayton Counties under the bipartisan infrastructure law’s Clean School Bus program, which provides Federal funding to reimburse for the purchase of clean school buses.
