Sens. Ossoff, Kennedy Introduce Bipartisan Bill to Support Disabled Veterans’ Small Businesses

Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is introducing bipartisan legislation to support Georgia’s small businesses owned by veterans.

Sens. Ossoff and John Kennedy (R-LA) recently introduced theService-Disabled Veteran Opportunities in Small Business Act to help disabled veterans’ small businesses thrive.

The Small Business Administration (SBA) currently manages a program that allocates certain Federal contracts to service-disabled veterans’ small businesses. The bipartisan Service-Disabled Veterans Opportunities in Small Business Act would require the SBA to issue guidance for the extension of contracts to small businesses owned by service-disabled veterans more effectively.

The bipartisan bill would also require the SBA to issue a report to Congress detailing a list of each Federal agency that failed to meet its contracting goals and provide training for Federal agencies that fail to meet contracting goals.

“Service-disabled veterans have made huge sacrifices in our national defense. That’s why Senator Kennedy and I are introducing this bipartisan bill to support small businesses run by service-disabled veterans in Georgia and nationwide,” Sen. Ossoff said.

“America owes a debt of gratitude to every veteran who sacrifices for our country. Our bill would do right by service-disabled veterans by making sure government agencies are giving their small businesses a fair shake,” Sen. Kennedy said.

Representatives Nick LaLota (R-NY) and Morgan McGarvey (D-KY) introduced a companion bill in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Sens. Kennedy and Ossoff have proposed their legislation as an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), Congress’s annual defense spending and policy bill.

Sen. Ossoff is a strong advocate for veterans in the state of Georgia and nationwide.

Last week, President Trump signed the VA Home Loan Program Reform Act into law, bipartisan legislation that Sen. Ossoff co-sponsored and championed to help veterans relying on VA home loans and experiencing severe financial hardship avoid foreclosure.

Last year, Sen. Ossoff passed into law the bipartisan Investing in VETS Act to help service-disabled veteran business owners compete for Federal government contracts, helping expand their business opportunities to new markets.
