Sen. Ossoff Working Across the Aisle to Strengthen Background Checks & Protect Georgia Children

Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is working across the aisle to strengthen background checks for caregivers of children.

Sen. Ossoff is working to pass the bipartisan Comprehensive Health and Integrity in Licensing and Documentation (CHILD) Act, legislation he co-sponsored to strengthen background check standards for caregivers and protect Georgia children by ensuring employers hire the most qualified candidates.

The bill was first introduced by Senators Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Chuck Grassley (R-IA).

“Georgia parents need the tools and a thorough background check to protect their children and the confidence that caregivers have had a thorough background check,” Sen Ossoff said.

Sen. Ossoff continues fighting to protect young children in Georgia and nationwide.

In May 2024, Sen. Ossoff’s bipartisan bill with Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) to protect children from online sexual abuse and exploitation was signed into law.

In December 2023, Sen. Ossoff’s bipartisan bill with Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) to strengthen Federal protections against the sexual abuse of children, including online exploitation, was signed into law.

In July 2023, Sen. Ossoff urged Attorney General Merrick Garland to issue guidelines that would provide access to national criminal background checks for people seeking to work or volunteer with young children, ensuring families are protected and employers can hire the highest quality candidates.
