Columbus, Ga. — U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is delivering water infrastructure upgrades for Columbus.
Last year, Sen. Ossoff passed into law his Georgia Stormwater Management Act, which created a new authority for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to conduct water infrastructure projects across the Columbus area.
Now, Sen. Ossoff is delivering funding through the new authority to help upgrade the South Columbus Water Resources facility, which serves the City of Columbus and Fort Benning.
Sen. Ossoff is delivering $3,120,000 for the project through bipartisan government funding legislation that became law on January 23.
“Every town in Georgia deserves safe, effective water infrastructure,” Sen. Ossoff said. “That’s why I bought Republicans and Democrats together to upgrade water infrastructure in Columbus.”
Jeremy Cummings, President/CEO of Columbus Water Works, stated, “We are extremely grateful for the leadership and support from Senator Ossoff and his office to pass the Georgia Stormwater Management Act. This appropriations bill secures $3.12 million in project funding towards the upgrade of the Columbus Water Works South Columbus Water Resources facility. This investment will provide economic resources to support public health and economic prosperity, strengthen critical infrastructure for the City of Columbus, Fort Benning, and the surrounding region, and ensure that our community can depend on modern, effective wastewater infrastructure for years to come.”
