Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff today secured a commitment from the U.S. Navy to help upgrade Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay’s infrastructure in preparation for the new Columbia-class Submarine mission.
Sen. Ossoff, Ranking Member of the U.S. Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Military Construction, today held a hearing about funding priorities for military construction projects and highlighted key projects in Georgia, including upgrades needed to prepare NSB Kings Bay for the new class of Submarines.
Last December, Sen. Ossoff’s Kings Bay Trident Modernization Act became law as part of the 2025National Defense Authorization Act, authorizing the construction of a trident refit facility expansion at Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay as the installation prepares for the arrival of the new Columbia-class submarine.
Sen. Ossoff serves as the top Democrat on the Military Construction Appropriations Subcommittee, positioning him to fight for and deliver Federal funding for key Georgia projects impacting national security, military readiness, quality-of-life for servicemembers and military families, and more.
During the hearing, Sen. Ossoff spoke with Vice Admiral Jeffrey T. Jablon, Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Installations and Logistics for the United States Navy, and raised the importance of Kings Bay to Coastal Georgia, the State of Georgia, and the entire nation.
“Admiral Jablon, thank you as well for your service and your testimony today. Georgia is proud to host Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay. We are proud to host the east coast home for the Ohio-class submarines. We are working closely with the Navy and with the Department in order to prepare for the transition of the Columbia-class boats. It is one of my top priorities to make sure that we’re investing in Kings Bay to prepare for the equipment and the missions that are coming,” Ranking Member Ossoff said. “Can I have your commitment, Admiral, to work with me and the Subcommittee and the leadership at Kings Bay and local leaders in Georgia to ensure that the base is fully prepared to accept the new Columbia-class submarines?”
Sen. Ossoff secured Vice Admiral Jablon’s commitment to work with him, the Subcommittee, the community, and Kings Bay leadership to ensure the installation is prepared and successful in receiving this new mission.

Sen. Ossoff continues working to support NSB Kings Bay.
Last year, Sen. Ossoff delivered $9 million to Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay through the Department of Energy’s Assisting Federal Facilities with Energy Conservation Technology (AFFECT) grant program to strengthen energy and national security and upgrade infrastructure on the installation.
In 2023, Sen. Ossoff helped pass a key provision through the National Defense Authorization Act with Republican and Democratic support to authorize electrical grid improvements at NSB Kings Bay needed to prepare for the new class of submarines.
