Ossoff raised the issue with AG-nominee Merrick Garland in February<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Washington, D.C.&nbsp;<\/strong>\u2014 Today, U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff released the following statement on the Department of Justice\u2019s announced investigation into conditions in Georgia prisons:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cConditions of incarceration in Georgia are unacceptable, and I will continue to drive the attention and resources of the Federal government toward solutions and accountability. I applaud today\u2019s announcement by the Department of Justice. It is an important first step toward protecting the human rights of incarcerated people in Georgia\u2019s prisons,\u201d&nbsp;<strong>Sen. Ossoff said.&nbsp;<\/strong>\u201cI thank Attorney General Garland and Assistant Attorney General Clarke for listening as I\u2019ve raised this issue and for taking action.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In February, Sen. Ossoff&nbsp;secured a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.c-span.org\/video\/?c4947861\/user-clip-sen-ossoff-prisonjails\">commitment<\/a>&nbsp;from then-nominee Merrick Garland&nbsp;to work with the DOJ\u2019s Civil Rights Division to secure the human rights of incarcerated people, specifically raising the treatment of incarcerated people at the South Fulton Jail in Georgia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"># # #<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sen.
