Ossoff\u2019s \u201cLocal Transit Planning Support Act\u201d increases funding to plan transit and transportation infrastructure in Georgia\u2019s low-income and low-density areas<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><em>Bill will boost opportunity and quality of life in urban and rural communities that haven\u2019t received their fair share of resources<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Washington, D.C.&nbsp;<\/strong>\u2013\u2013 U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/sen-ossoff-introduces-new-legislation-to-boost-economic-and-transportation-development-in-underserved-parts-of-georgia-u-s\/\"><em>Local Transit Planning Support Act<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;passed the U.S. Senate last week as part of the bipartisan&nbsp;<em>Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;bill&nbsp;will increase funding to plan transit and transportation development in both low-income and low-density areas and boost economic opportunity and quality of life in urban and rural communities that have historically been underserved and lack access to public transportation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are delivering a generational investment in transit and transportation for all our communities,\u201d&nbsp;<strong>Sen. Ossoff said.&nbsp;<\/strong>\u201cI worked hard to ensure the&nbsp;<em>Local Transit Planning Support Act<\/em>&nbsp;has been included in this bipartisan infrastructure package to ensure all communities \u2014 especially for those that have been left out&nbsp; \u2014 expand transportation infrastructure and economic opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>Leaders from across Georgia praised Sen. Ossoff\u2019s bill when it was introduced last month, pointing to the impact it would have in their communities:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAccess to reliable public transit is essential for low and moderate income communities in Savannah and across our state, and Sen. Ossoff\u2019s&nbsp;<em>Local Transit Planning Support Act<\/em>&nbsp;will give metro planning organizations, like ours, the tools they need to expand transit for more Georgia workers and families,\u201d&nbsp;<strong>Savannah Mayor Van Johnson said.&nbsp;<\/strong>\u201cThis bill promotes equity in our community and will boost our local economy \u2013 let\u2019s get it done.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFor low-income families in Augusta, access to transit means access to jobs, child care, education, and more,\u201d&nbsp;<strong>said Augusta Mayor Hardie Davis Jr.<\/strong>&nbsp;\u201cSen. Ossoff\u2019s new bill to increase funding for metro planning organizations that serve low-income communities will help ensure transit options are available for the Georgians who need it most, and I applaud his efforts on this innovative legislation.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSen. Ossoff\u2019s legislation to promote transit equity will bring more economic opportunity to the Macon-Bibb County area and give low-income Georgians increased access to good-paying jobs, education, and child care. Expanding access to transit for low-income and low-population areas will benefit everyone across central Georgia, and I\u2019m proud to work with Sen. Ossoff to get his bill passed,\u201d&nbsp;<strong>said Mayor of Macon-Bibb County, Lester Miller.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn Valdosta, we\u2019ve seen the positive effects of expanded transit options firsthand, and Sen.
