Warnock Secure $84 Million for Georgia HBCUs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><em>At least half of estimated funding must go directly to student aid<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><em>Ossoff, Warnock personally led push in Senate for Historically Black Colleges and Universities, ensured funding is grants instead of loans<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Washington, DC<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2014 Today, Georgia U.S. Senators Jon Ossoff and Reverend Raphael Warnock announced nearly $85 million in funding they have secured for Georgia\u2019s Historically Black Colleges and Universities through the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/sens-ossoff-warnock-cast-decisive-votes-to-pass-historic-covid-19-relief-bill\/\">American Rescue Plan<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At least half of the funds must go directly to student aid as young people and families continue to endure displacement and economic distress due to the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sens. Ossoff and Warnock are champions for Georgia\u2019s HBCUs and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/senators-ossoff-reverend-warnock-coons-lead-colleagues-in-push-to-secure-additional-emergency-relief-for-hbcus\/\">led the push<\/a>&nbsp;in the U.S. Senate to ensure HBCUs had equitable access to federal COVID-19 relief funds in the form of direct grants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>President Biden signed the American Rescue Plan, including the HBCU grants, into law in March.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHistorically Black Colleges and Universities are gems in our nation&#8217;s system of higher education,&#8221;&nbsp;<strong>Senator Ossoff said<\/strong>. \u201cGeorgia&#8217;s HBCUs can count on me to fight for them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs a proud graduate of Atlanta\u2019s Morehouse College, I know personally how indispensable Georgia\u2019s HBCUs are to our state\u2019s economy and heritage, and the immense value HBCU graduates add to our workplaces and communities,\u201d&nbsp;<strong>Senator Reverend Warnock said.&nbsp;<\/strong>\u201cOur hardworking students have had to navigate the public health and economic challenges of the on-going pandemic for the past year, and this critical support from the federal government is an important hand up that will help them pursue their education, strengthen our state\u2019s workforce, and keep our economy moving forward.
