Raphael Warnock (D-GA) that honors the life and legacy of the late Congressman John Lewis, shortly after what would have been his 81st birthday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sen. Ossoff spoke on the floor of the Senate to request unanimous consent, and the Senate passed the resolution, without objection.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Senators Patrick Leahy (D-VT), Jack Reed (D-RI), and Ben Cardin (D-MD) also co-sponsored the legislation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/2021.02.24-resolution.pdf\">resolution<\/a>&nbsp;honors Lewis for his towering achievements in the nonviolent struggle for civil rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lewis passed away in July 2020 after courageously battling pancreatic cancer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u><a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/GsPkSz7ftWU\">Click here to watch Senator Ossoff\u2019s remarks on the Senate floor<\/a><\/u><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Sen. Poverty, violence, and racism are not necessary or inevitable. Our obligation is to carry the torch Congressman Lewis passed and keep working to build the Beloved Community in America and around the world. He believed in the promise and the power of the vote, and the way people can right our country\u2019s grave mistakes by strengthening our democracy,\u201d&nbsp;<strong>said Senator Warnock.<\/strong>&nbsp;\u201cWe remember and honor him, and the lessons he taught us about the sacred responsibilities we have to exercise our voices at the ballot box and strengthen voting rights across the board.
