Ossoff Pressing Trump Admin to Protect Children from Dangerous Chemicals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Washington, D.C.&nbsp;<\/strong>\u2014 U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is pressing the Trump Administration to protect children from dangerous chemicals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sen. Ossoff is demanding answers from Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Lee Zeldin following <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/06\/08\/politics\/trump-epa-chemicals-political-pressure\">reports<\/a>\u00a0that the Trump Administration is undermining efforts to protect children from risks associated with common household chemicals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A year ago, the EPA&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/system\/files\/documents\/2025-06\/1.-dbp-.-draft-risk-evaluation-.-public-release-.-hero-.-may-2025.pdf\">determined<\/a>&nbsp;that dibutyl phthalate (DBP), a widely used artificial plastic additive found in common household products, may \u201csignificantly contribute to unreasonable risk to human health.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, just a year later, the EPA&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/system\/files\/documents\/2025-12\/01-dbp-risk-evaluation-public-release-hero-december-2025.pdf\">backtracked&nbsp;<\/a>and reduced the list&nbsp;of risks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to research&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/34069956\/#full-view-affiliation-2\">published<\/a>&nbsp;in the scientific journal&nbsp;<em>Cuidado de salud<\/em>, chemicals&nbsp;like DBP interfere with hormones in the human body, and chronic exposure can impact pregnancy, child growth and development, and reproductive health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Trump Administration claims to prioritize \u2018Make America Healthy Again\u2019 (MAHA) policies. Yet you are reportedly wielding the President\u2019s so-called \u2018Restoring Gold Standard Science\u2019 executive order to pressure EPA scientists into downplaying the hazards associated with household chemicals,\u201d&nbsp;<strong>Sen. Ossoff wrote to EPA Administrator Zeldin.&nbsp;<\/strong>\u201cI am concerned that political interference is influencing the risk assessments for chemicals used in everyday children\u2019s toys, cosmetics, and household cleaners, exposing Georgia families and children to unnecessary risk.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sen. Ossoff continues working to protect Georgia kids from harmful chemicals and contaminants.<br><br>In July, Sens. Ossoff and John Cornyn (R-TX)&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/sens-ossoff-cornyn-introduce-bipartisan-bill-to-protect-children-from-toxic-chemicals-in-toys\/\">introduced<\/a>&nbsp;the bipartisan&nbsp;<em>No Lead in Toys Act<\/em>&nbsp;to help protect children from toxic chemicals in toys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last December, Sen. Ossoff&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/sen-ossoff-demanding-trump-admin-reverse-cancellation-of-kids-lead-exposure-research-project\/\">urged<\/a>&nbsp;the EPA to reinstate a grant made to Emory University to research children\u2019s exposure to lead, heavy metals, and other contaminants in West Atlanta following the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/cumulis.epa.gov\/supercpad\/SiteProfiles\/index.cfm?fuseaction=second.cleanup&amp;id=0407160\">discovery<\/a>&nbsp;of dangerously high levels of lead in some West Atlanta yards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last April, Sen. Ossoff&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/sen-ossoff-demanding-answers-from-baby-formula-producers-on-reports-of-lead-contamination\/\">demanded<\/a>&nbsp;answers from baby formula producers Abbott Nutrition and Mead Johnson about&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/money\/2025\/03\/19\/infant-formulas-lead-arsenic-consumer-reports\/82372887007\/\">recent reports<\/a>&nbsp;of toxic chemicals found in formula.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2022, Sen.
