Chickamauga, Ga.<\/strong> \u2014 U.S. Senators Jon Ossoff and Reverend Raphael Warnock are delivering bipartisan infrastructure law funding to protect Georgia families from hazardous contaminants and substances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sens. Ossoff and Rev. Warnock are delivering nearly $9 million in Federal funding through the bipartisan infrastructure law to accelerate the cleanup of polluted sites across Georgia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Federal funding, delivered through the Environmental Protection Agency\u2019s Brownfields Multipurpose, Assessment, and Cleanup grant program, will help assess, clean up and redevelop blighted properties across the state and protect families from dangerous chemicals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is about our communities\u2019 health. No family in Georgia should live in fear of contaminants in their communities,\u201d Sen. Ossoff said. <\/strong>\u201cThat\u2019s why we are delivering these historic public health and environmental cleanup efforts across Georgia.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe health of Georgia’s communities is tied to the health of our environment,”said Senator Reverend Warnock.<\/strong> \u201cThese federal funds will help ensure Georgians can trust that their families are protected from hazardous substances.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

City of Chickamauga<\/td>Chickamauga, Ga<\/td>$4,000,000<\/td>Grant funds will be used to clean up the former Crystal Springs Print Works Site located at Long Street and West 10th Avenue. The 17-acre cleanup site operated as a textile mill from 1909 to 2013. Buildings on the site were demolished between 2013 and 2016, and the site has been vacant and covered in demolition debris since then.<\/td><\/tr>
Downtown Development Authority of Social Circle<\/td>Social Circle, Ga<\/td>$4,000,000<\/td>Grant funds will be used to clean up the Social Circle Cotton Mill located at 148 Cannon Drive. The 3.8-acre cleanup site operated as a textile mill. In 1994, over half of the primary mill building was destroyed by a fire. A second fire caused further damage, leaving the area in a state of disrepair, and it has been vacant for over 15 years.<\/td><\/tr>
Henderson School Alumni Association Trust, Inc.<\/td>Jackson, Ga<\/td>$499,950<\/td>Grant funds will be used to clean up the Henderson School located at 820 North Mulberry Street in the City of Jackson. The 20-acre cleanup site operated as a school from 1955 to 2010.<\/td><\/tr>
Rome-Floyd County Development Authority<\/td>Rome, Ga<\/td>$500,000<\/td>Community-wide grant funds will be used to expand the current inventory of brownfield sites and conduct ten Phase I and five Phase II environmental site assessments. Grant funds will also be used to develop three cleanup plans and one revitalization plan, and support community engagement activities. The target area for this grant is the 32-square-mile limits of the City of Rome. Priority sites include the 9.4-acre O’Neill Manufacturing site and the 2-acre Veteran Memorial Highway Landfill.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Sen. Ossoff continues to protect Georgia families from harmful chemicals and contaminants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In May, Sens. Ossoff and Rev. Warnock and Rep. McBath brought Republicans and Democrats in Congress together to deliver<\/a> Federal funding for the City of East Point to install PFAS removal filters to existing drinking water pipes, helping improve drinking water quality for families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In April Sens. Ossoff and Rev. Warnock brought Republicans and Democrats together to upgrade<\/a> the Alcovy River Pump Station to better serve residents in the county by mitigating the risk of exposure to PFAS and other contaminants and improving available water supply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last December, Sen. Ossoff urged<\/a> the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to reinstate a grant made to Emory University to research children\u2019s exposure to lead, heavy metals, and other contaminants in West Atlanta following the discovery<\/a> of dangerously high levels of lead in some West Atlanta yards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sen. Ossoff has previously delivered funding through the EPA\u2019s Brownfield program for clean-up projects across the state, including in Adrian<\/a>, Atlanta<\/a>, Columbus<\/a>, Macon<\/a>, Milledgeville<\/a>, Rome<\/a>, and Warner Robins<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
