Sen. Ossoff asking Georgia families to share their stories at <\/em>ossoff.senate.gov\/healthstory<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Washington, D.C. <\/strong>\u2014 U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is urging Georgians to share their personal experiences of insurance companies denying or delaying needed health care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, in a new video, Sen. Ossoff is urging Georgians to share their stories of insurance companies denying or delaying needed health care at Ossoff.Senate.Gov\/HealthStory<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This comes as part of Sen. Ossoff\u2019s ongoing work to prevent health insurance companies denying or delaying needed health care for Georgia families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI think we should be able to bring people together to ban insurance companies from denying or delaying needed health care,\u201d Sen. Ossoff said. <\/strong>\u201cIf you or a loved one have been denied or delayed needed health care by an insurance company, we are gathering those stories at ossoff.senate.gov\/healthstory.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A recent Johns Hopkins study<\/a> found that the practice of prior authorization, where patients must seek approval from their insurance company before receiving care, was \u201cassociated with disease exacerbation, preventable hospitalization, prolonged hospital stay, and lower rates of disease-free survival.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to KFF<\/a>, virtually all seniors enrolled in Medicare Advantage must obtain prior authorization for some services, and in 2024 over four million of these requests were denied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, KFF also<\/a> found that of the approximately 85 million Affordable Care Act (ACA) in-network denied claims in 2024, less than 1% were appealed, forcing patients either to pay for services out-of-pocket, despite having \u201ccoverage,\u201d or forgoing care \u2013 solely because of decisions made by insurance companies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sen. Ossoff continues working to ban insurance companies from denying or delaying needed health care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier this month, Sen. Ossoff offered an amendment<\/a> to prevent insurance companies from denying or delaying needed health care, but Senate Republicans blocked Sen. Ossoff\u2019s amendment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
