Ossoff Pushing to Help Georgia Pecan Growers Expand Access to World Markets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Washington, D.C.&nbsp;<\/strong>\u2014 U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff continues pushing to help Georgia pecan growers gain access to world markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sen. Ossoff is urging U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Brooke Rollins to request market access for U.S. in-shell pecans during trade negotiations between the U.S. and India. Exporting pecans in-shell allows them to travel in a more shelf-stable state, which would further benefit Georgia growers\u2019 ability to continue expanding their exports to the Indian market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This step would also build on Sen. Ossoff and the industry\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/breaking-following-sen-ossoffs-months-long-push-india-cuts-tariffs-on-u-s-pecan-exports-by-70-in-major-win-for-georgia-farmers\/\">successful work helping negotiate<\/a>&nbsp;a 70 percent reduction in India\u2019s tariff on U.S. pecans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGeorgia continues to be the leading state for pecan production in the United States,\u201d&nbsp;<strong>Sen. Ossoff wrote.&nbsp;<\/strong>\u201cTo ensure that the U.S. pecan industry can continue feeding our nation and the world, I strongly urge you to request that market access is granted for U.S. in-shell pecans in a U.S.-India bilateral trade agreement.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sen. Ossoff continues working to support Georgia\u2019s pecan growers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2025, Sen. Ossoff, along with a bipartisan group,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/sen-ossoff-working-to-protect-georgia-pecan-growers-from-trump-administration-tariffs\/\">urged<\/a>&nbsp;the United States Trade Representative (USTR) to prioritize American pecan producers in ongoing trade negotiations with India and to extend the deadline for trade talks with India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sen. Ossoff and another bipartisan group&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/sen-ossoff-georgias-congressional-delegation-urging-trump-administration-to-help-georgia-growers-export-more-pecans\/\">also urged USDA<\/a>&nbsp;to expedite the process of obtaining market access for more Georgia pecans to be sold to India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also in 2025, Sen. Ossoff successfully&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/sen-ossoff-successfully-presses-usda-to-purchase-georgia-grown-pecans\/\">pressed USDA to announce<\/a>&nbsp;a $24 million dollar investment to support pecan growers and shellers in Georgia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2024, Sens. Ossoff and Reverend Raphael Warnock&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/sens-ossoff-rev-warnock-pressing-usda-to-promote-georgia-pecans\/\">successfully pressed USDA<\/a>&nbsp;to provide adequate promotional resources for marketing Georgia pecans to the global market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2023, following Sen. Ossoff\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/breaking-following-sen-ossoffs-months-long-push-india-cuts-tariffs-on-u-s-pecan-exports-by-70-in-major-win-for-georgia-farmers\/\">push<\/a>, the Republic of India announced a major 70% cut to tariffs on U.S. pecan exports \u2014 helping growers sell more products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/26.06.11-Senator-Ossoff-India-In-Shell-Pecan-Market-Access-Letter.pdf\">Click here<\/a>&nbsp;to read Sen.
