Ossoff&nbsp;<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/26.03.05_Tybee-Renourishment-letter-to-AS-Telle.pdf\"><em>urged<\/em><\/a><em>&nbsp;the Army Corps to allocate Federal funding for the Tybee Island project<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Washington, D.C.&nbsp;<\/strong>\u2014 U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is pushing the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to support Tybee Island\u2019s beach renourishment project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sen. Ossoff is pushing the Army Corps of Engineers to provide the necessary Federal funding to renourish Tybee Island\u2019s beaches and protect the shoreline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sen. Ossoff is again urging Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works Adam Telle to allocate Federal funding needed to help complete the shovel-ready Tybee Island Shoreline Protection Project, noting the project is ready to begin and has already completed its environmental review.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In March, Sen. Ossoff&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/26.03.05_Tybee-Renourishment-letter-to-AS-Telle.pdf\">first urged the Army Corps<\/a>&nbsp;to allocate Federal funding for the renourishment project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wtoc.com\/2026\/04\/10\/tybee-island-not-selected-12m-federal-beach-funding-erosion-raises-concerns-with-locals\/\">According to local leaders<\/a>, Tybee Island\u2019s beaches are rapidly eroding, and if beach renourishment is delayed, the island\u2019s homes, businesses, and infrastructure could be even more vulnerable to flooding and storm damage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBeach nourishment at Tybee Island has been a successful partnership between the City of Tybee Island and the Corps for nearly five decades,\u201d&nbsp;<strong>Sen. Ossoff wrote to Assistant Secretary Telle.&nbsp;<\/strong>\u201cWithout an allocation of $12 million in FY26 funds, the next beach renourishment will be delayed, jeopardizing both commercial and residential structures on the island and inflicting serious harm on the local economy.\u201d<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sen. Ossoff continues working to protect Tybee Island from the effects of sea-level rise and flooding.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2023, Sen. Ossoff&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/sen-ossoff-announces-federal-resources-to-help-protect-tybee-island-from-coastal-flooding\/\">announced<\/a>&nbsp;a new $380,000 Federal grant through the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF)\u2019s National Coastal Resilience Fund to help protect residents and homes from flooding on Tybee Island.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also in 2023, Sen. Ossoff&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/sen-ossoff-delivering-new-hurricane-and-tornado-shelter-to-tybee-island-to-protect-first-responders-improve-public-safety\/\">delivered<\/a>&nbsp;new resources through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to construct a new hurricane and tornado safe room on Tybee Island, providing a safe area for emergency personnel who must remain on the Island during hurricanes and other disaster situations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2022, Sen. Ossoff&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/sen-ossoffs-legislation-to-protect-tybee-island-from-storm-surge-signed-into-law\/\">passed into law<\/a>&nbsp;his&nbsp;<em>Tybee Island Storm Risk Management Act&nbsp;<\/em>as part of the&nbsp;<em>Water Resources and Development Act<\/em>&nbsp;reauthorization, which extended the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers\u2019 authority to partner with Tybee Island on beach renourishment and storm risk management projects for 12 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/26.06.10_Tybee-Beach-Renourishment-Follow-up-letter.pdf\">Click here<\/a>&nbsp;to read Sen.
