Ossoff Expanding Services for Georgia Seniors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Atlanta, Ga.&nbsp;<\/strong>\u2014&nbsp;U.S.&nbsp;Senator Jon Ossoff is delivering&nbsp;new resources&nbsp;for Georgia&nbsp;seniors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sen. Ossoff brought Republicans and Democrats together to&nbsp;expand services for Georgia&nbsp;seniors, including&nbsp;the&nbsp;construction of a new&nbsp;senior center in Rockdale County,&nbsp;upgrades to&nbsp;senior service facilities in Atlanta, the purchase of a new van for the Whitfield County&nbsp;Senior Center, and the purchase of ADA-equipped vehicles in Macon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGeorgia\u2019s&nbsp;seniors&nbsp;will always be one of my top priorities,\u201d&nbsp;<strong>Sen. Ossoff&nbsp;said.&nbsp;<\/strong>\u201cI worked with Republicans and Democrats to deliver resources that will improve the quality of life for&nbsp;seniors&nbsp;across our state.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sen. Ossoff is delivering funding for the projects through bipartisan government funding legislation that became law on February 3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please find a summary of projects for which&nbsp;Sen. Ossoff is delivering funding below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>ROCKDALE COUNTY\u00a0($1,900,000)<\/strong>:\u00a0Rockdale County\u00a0will use the Federal funding to\u00a0help build\u00a0a new\u00a0senior center on the south side of Rockdale County. The planned facility will have meeting spaces for events and entertainment, a Meals-on-Wheels kitchen and loading area for deliveries, offices for staff administration and activity planning, and a large indoor recreation area.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>ATLANTA:\u00a0Fulton County\u00a0($2,015,000)<\/strong>:\u00a0Fulton County\u00a0will use the Federal funding to\u00a0provide upgrades to four\u00a0senior service facilities in Northwest Atlanta, Northeast Atlanta, East Point, and Sandy Springs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>WHITFIELD COUNTY\u00a0($92,000)<\/strong>:\u00a0Whitfield County\u00a0will use the Federal funding to\u00a0purchase\u00a0a van for the Whitfield County\u00a0Senior Center, helping\u00a0provide\u00a0seniors\u00a0the opportunity to\u00a0participate\u00a0in the\u00a0Senior Center\u2019s\u00a0monthly daytrips\u00a0around the community.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>MACON: Macon Bibb County Economic Opportunity Council, Inc. ($280,000)<\/strong>: The Macon Bibb County Economic Opportunity Council will use the Federal funding to\u00a0purchase\u00a0two\u00a0additional\u00a0ADA-equipped vehicles and two\u00a0additional\u00a015-passenger vehicles. Currently, the Council does not have enough vehicles to serve all clients with mobility issues. The Regional Transportation Program transports for multiple state agencies that include DFCS clients that receive benefits to work activities, Department of Behavioral Health\u00a0Clients to work activities and day programs and aging clients are transported to\u00a0senior activities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis federal investment represents a significant commitment to the quality of life for Rockdale County&nbsp;seniors,\u201d&nbsp;<strong>said Chair and CEO of Rockdale County,&nbsp;JaNice&nbsp;Van Ness<\/strong>.&nbsp;\u201cWe are grateful to&nbsp;Senator Ossoff for his leadership in securing these critical resources for our community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFulton County is grateful for&nbsp;Senator Ossoff&#8217;s support for our&nbsp;seniors. These funds will make our&nbsp;senior centers safer and will enhance recreational and therapeutic programming, allowing thousands of older adults to continue to thrive within communities across Fulton County,\u201d&nbsp;<strong>said Fulton County Commission&nbsp;Chairman&nbsp;Robb Pitts.<\/strong><br><br>\u201cWe are grateful for the efforts of&nbsp;Senator Jon Ossoff and his staff in securing $92 thousand for Whitfield County in the 2026 LHHS (Labor,&nbsp;Health&nbsp;and Human Services) Appropriations Act.&nbsp;&nbsp;These funds will be used to help&nbsp;purchase&nbsp;a new ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliant passenger van for the Whitfield County&nbsp;Senior Center.&nbsp;This critical investment by our federal government will ensure full accessibility and safe transport of&nbsp;senior citizens we are proud to serve,\u201d&nbsp;<strong>said Bob Sivick, Whitfield County Administrator.<\/strong>&nbsp;\u201cWhitfield County also looks forward to a continued close working relationship with our federal partners and officials in completing this process and future efforts and projects on behalf of residents and taxpayers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis investment will make a real difference for the people we serve.
