Kings Bay, Ga. <\/strong>\u2014 U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff today secured a commitment from the U.S. Navy to prepare Naval Submarine Base (NSB) Kings Bay\u2019s infrastructure for the new Columbia-class Submarine mission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sen. Ossoff, Ranking Member of the U.S. Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Military Construction, today held a hearing about funding priorities for military construction projects and highlighted key projects in Georgia, including upgrades needed to prepare NSB Kings Bay for the new class of submarines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sen. Ossoff serves as the top Democrat on the Military Construction Appropriations Subcommittee, positioning him to fight for and deliver Federal funding for key Georgia projects impacting national security, military readiness, quality-of-life for servicemembers and military families, and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the hearing, Sen. Ossoff spoke with U.S. Navy Rear Admiral Timothy Brown and raised the importance of ensuring the facilities at Kings Bay are prepared to host the Columbia-class fleet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cGeorgia is incredibly proud to host this facility, one of only two primary bases for nuclear-powered submarines in the country, the east coast home for the Ohio-class Submarine Force. Preparing for the Columbia-class fleets, one of my top priorities, and has been now for several years, working with you and your colleagues to make sure we are appropriately investing in Kings Bay to prepare it for the equipment and the missions that are coming,\u201d Ranking Member Ossoff said. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI was pleased to see that two projects related to that effort are in this budget, but recognize there’s still much more work to do, so, Admiral, can I have your commitment to work directly with me and the Subcommittee in order to accelerate and expedite all necessary investment and preparation so that Kings Bay can be fully prepared to accept the new Columbia class submarines?\u201d Ranking Member<\/strong> Ossoff continued.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sen. Ossoff secured Rear Admiral Brown\u2019s commitment to work with him and the Subcommittee to ensure the installation is prepared and successful in receiving this new mission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
