Washington, D.C. <\/strong>\u2014 U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is working to expand prenatal care for Georgia\u2019s servicemembers and their families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sen. Ossoff cosponsored the Improving Access to Prenatal Care for Military Families Act,<\/em> introduced by Sens. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) and Andy Kim (D-NJ), to expand access to prenatal care for Georgia\u2019s servicemembers and their families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This legislation would create a five-year pilot program designating pregnancy as a Qualifying Life Event (QLE) under TRICARE, giving servicemembers and military families the flexibility to switch to a health care plan that meets their needs during a pregnancy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently, QLEs include marriage, divorce, a job change, a move, and the birth or adoption of a child, but does not include pregnancy, making it harder to get prenatal health care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur servicemembers and families deserve great health care,\u201d said Sen. Ossoff. <\/strong>\u201cThis legislation would help military families get the care they deserve as they prepare to welcome a child into the world.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sen. Ossoff continues to champion Georgia\u2019s military families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last December, Sen. Ossoff cosponsored<\/a> the bipartisan Helping Heroes Act <\/em>to expand supportive services for families of disabled veterans, including children taking on caregiving roles for their parents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last February, Sen. Ossoff cosponsored<\/a> the bipartisan Love Lives On Act<\/em> to help spouses of deceased servicemembers retain survivor benefits upon remarriage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2024, Sens. Ossoff and Mike Braun (R-IN) passed into law<\/a> the bipartisan Military<\/em> Mental Health Professionals Support Act<\/em> to help ensure servicemembers have access to the vital mental health care services they deserve by recruiting more mental health care providers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In June 2024, Sen. Ossoff introduced<\/a> the Military Families Support Act<\/em>, which would exempt active duty servicemembers from being deployed, mobilized, or sent to trainings away from their duty stations for a year, helping keep families together after welcoming a new child. The policy would also include servicemembers who adopt a child or those undergoing fertility treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In April 2024, Sen. Ossoff cosponsored<\/a> the MOMS Who Serve Act of 2024 <\/em>to help moms in the armed forces access perinatal health care services and cosponsored<\/a> the bipartisan Improving Access to Maternal Health for Military and Dependent Moms Act<\/em> to improve access to maternal health care for moms in the armed forces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
