Washington, D.C. <\/strong>\u2014 U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is pressuring Big Tech over sexual exploitation of children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sen. Ossoff today launched inquiries with Apple<\/a>, Google<\/a>, Meta<\/a>, Amazon<\/a>, and X<\/a> over tech companies\u2019 advertisement and distribution<\/a> of \u201cnudifying\u201d apps that allow users to swiftly create explicit images of children and teenagers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A study<\/a> found that 16% of U.S. teenagers between 13 and 17 surveyed reported personally knowing someone who has been targeted with an AI-generated deepfake image while a minor, and 11% reported finding out that deepfake nudes of themselves as minors were being shared or reshared by other people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNudify websites and apps have become increasingly prevalent and accessible online, making it easy for users to AI generate deepfake sexually explicit content, for example, from photos available on social media, without the consent or awareness of the victim,\u201d Sen. Ossoff wrote to the big tech companies.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAllowing third parties to use their services to access, distribute, or advertise websites and applications with nudifying functions makes tech companies complicit in these harms. Proactive action is therefore necessary to identify and limit such applications,\u201d Sen. Ossoff also wrote.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sen. Ossoff continues working to protect children online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In December, the U.S. Senate passed<\/a> Sens. Ossoff and Chuck Grassley (R-IA)\u2019s bipartisan Preventing Child Trafficking Act of 2025<\/em> to strengthen coordination between the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to better stop child trafficking and protect kids.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In July 2025, Sen. Ossoff cosponsored<\/a> the bipartisan Kids Online Safety Act<\/em>, which would impose new requirements on digital platforms to protect children from being targeted online with harmful content. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In March 2025, Sen. Ossoff cosponsored<\/a> the bipartisan Children and Teens\u2019 Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA 2.0)<\/em>to limit use of children\u2019s information for individually targeted advertising.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2024, Sen. Ossoff\u2019s bipartisan REPORT Act<\/em> with Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) became law<\/a>, which \u2014 for the first time \u2014 requires websites and social media platforms to report crimes involving Federal trafficking and enticement of children to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). Since the law\u2019s enactment, NCMEC has seen<\/a> a 952% increase in reports of child sex trafficking and a 77% increase in reports of online enticement of children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2023, Sens. Ossoff and Grassley\u2019s bipartisan Preventing Child Sex Abuse Act of 2023<\/em> was signed into law<\/a>, which strengthened Federal protections against the sexual abuse of children, including online exploitation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
