Ossoff worked with Republicans and Democrats to pass the<em>&nbsp;Increasing Transparency in Generic Drug Applications Act&nbsp;<\/em>to increase transparency in generic drug applications and reduce unnecessary delays so that these low-cost medications are brought to consumers faster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bipartisan bill, which became law on February 3 as part of bipartisan government funding legislation, will streamline the drug review process of generic drug applicants by requiring the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to disclose to generic drug applicants what ingredients causes a drug to be different and the same from brand-name drugs. By doing so, the bill will make generic drugs \u2013\u2013 which are lower-cost alternatives \u2013\u2013 more available to those in need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/accessiblemeds.org\/resources\/blog\/end-brand-name-drug-delay-generic-competition\/#:~:text=Specifically%2C%20the%20Increasing%20Transparency%20in%20Generic%20Drug,the%20same%20as%20the%20brand%2Dname%20reference%20product.\">Association for Accessible Medicine<\/a>, the bill\u2019s passage would \u201csave the U.S. healthcare system more than $800 million over 10 years and bring lower-cost medicines to patients sooner.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGeorgians deserve alternatives to expensive name-brand medications. This new law will help hold big pharma accountable and promote stronger competition for more affordable prescription drugs,\u201d&nbsp;<strong>said Sen. Ossoff.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sen. Ossoff continues his push to reduce out-of-pocket prescription drug costs for Georgians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2023, Sen. Ossoff&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/senate-judiciary-committee-passes-ossoff-backed-bipartisan-bills-to-lower-prescription-drug-prices-for-georgia-families\/\">helped advance<\/a>&nbsp;a package of bipartisan legislation \u2014 bringing together Democrats and Republicans to pass a fleet of bills dedicated to reducing these burdensome prescription drug costs for Georgians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2022, Sen.
