Ossoff, Colleagues Demand Department of Education Reverse Decision to Cut Federal Funding for Hispanic-Serving Institutions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Washington, D.C.&nbsp;<\/strong>\u2014 U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is pressing the Trump Administration to reverse its funding cuts for Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSI) in Georgia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This week, Sen. Ossoff and colleagues&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.padilla.senate.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2.18.26-OLC-Opinion-on-MSI-Termination-Letter.pdf\">launched an inquiry<\/a>&nbsp;with Education Secretary Linda McMahon demanding the Department of Education reverse its decision to cut Federal funding for Minority-Serving Institutions, including Georgia\u2019s Hispanic-Serving Institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last September, the Department announced it was&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/hacu.net\/cutting-350m-in-federal-grants-to-hispanic-serving-institutions-erases-decades-of-progress-and-hurts-millions-of-students-says-latinojustice\/\">cancelling $350 million in grant programs for<\/a>&nbsp;HSIs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis decision is yet another example of this Administration attempting to circumvent Congress and its obligations to follow the law,\u201d&nbsp;<strong>Sen. Ossoff and colleagues wrote to Secretary McMahon.<\/strong>&nbsp;\u201cUnilaterally deciding that long-standing programs are unconstitutional, absent a ruling from the judiciary, sets a dangerous precedent and disrupts needed support that colleges and students rely on.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe urge you to allocate Title III and V discretionary and mandatory funds as Congress intended so that these institutions, which educate millions of working-class Americans, can continue to successfully serve every student they enroll and continue to be economic engines for the communities they serve across this nation,\u201d&nbsp;<strong>Sen. Ossoff and colleagues continued.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sen. Ossoff continues working to support Georgia\u2019s Hispanic community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In July 2025, during an&nbsp;<a>Asignaciones<\/a>&nbsp;Committee hearing, Sen. Ossoff&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=tJtKTxor-Sk&amp;t=17s\">criticized the Trump Administration&#8217;s<\/a>cancellation of a National Institute of Health grant granted&nbsp;to the University of Georgia to develop new tools aimed at improving the Hispanic community&#8217;s access to information about diabetes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In February 2023, Sen. Ossoff&nbsp;delivered&nbsp;more than&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.daltonstate.edu\/news\/dalton-states-school-of-health-professions-receives-more-than-370000-in-federal-funding\/\">$370,000 in Federal funding<\/a>&nbsp;for Dalton State\u2019s School of Health Professions\u2019 simulation technology upgrades, expansion and enhancements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In January 2023, Sen. Ossoff delivered nearly&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ajc.com\/news\/georgia-news\/ossoff-announces-nearly-500k-in-federal-funding-for-local-latino-families\/NWFWVJYCEBDOTMVHGDBMLC5CYA\/\">$500k in Federal funding<\/a>&nbsp;to Ser Familia for local Latino families in Clayton County.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In May 2022, Sen. Ossoff Sen. Ossoff&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/watch-sen-ossoff-secures-commitment-from-usda-official-to-improve-access-to-affordable-housing-for-georgians-facing-language-barriers\/\">secured a commitment<\/a>&nbsp;from U.S. Department of Agriculture\u2019s Under Secretary for Rural Development, Xochitl Torres Small, to help Georgians experiencing language barriers navigate the housing market and system, improving their access to affordable housing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In May 2021, Sen.
