Ossoff Working Across the Aisle to Strengthen Support for Military Victims of Sexual Assault"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Washington, D.C.&nbsp;<\/strong>\u2014 U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is backing a bipartisan bill to support military victims of sexual assault.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sen. Ossoff is cosponsoring the bipartisan&nbsp;<em>Servicemembers and Veterans Empowerment and Support Act<\/em>&nbsp;to make it easier for survivors of military sexual trauma to apply for and receive benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mentalhealth.va.gov\/docs\/mst_general_factsheet.pdf\">According to VA<\/a>, about 1 in 3 women and 1 in 50 men report experiencing military sexual trauma. The bipartisan bill, led by Sens. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), would eliminate bureaucratic hurdles for survivors applying for disability benefits from VA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cToo many of our nation\u2019s heroes continue to be targeted while they serve,\u201d&nbsp;<strong>Sen. Ossoff said.<\/strong>&nbsp;\u201cThat is why I am supporting bipartisan legislation to ensure that veterans who are survivors of sexual trauma are able to receive the benefits that they earned defending our Nation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sen. Ossoff continues to work to strengthen protections for survivors of sexual abuse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2024, Sen. Ossoff&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/sen-ossoff-delivering-resources-to-strengthen-services-for-victims-of-violent-crime\/\">delivered<\/a>&nbsp;over $30 million in Federal funding through the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) to the Georgia Criminal Justice Coordinating Council (CJCC) to strengthen services for victims of violent crime throughout the state.<br><br>Also in 2024, Sen. Ossoff&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/sen-ossoff-delivering-resources-to-support-domestic-violence-victims\/\">delivered<\/a>&nbsp;funding to the Cobb County District Attorney\u2019s office to help expand the county\u2019s Family Advocacy Center (FAC) that serves victims of crime, including domestic violence, human trafficking,&nbsp;sexualassault, and child&nbsp;abuse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2022, Sen.
