Ossoff Working Across the Aisle to Combat Opioid Crisis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Washington, D.C.&nbsp;<\/strong>\u2014 U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is backing new bipartisan legislation to help prevent opioid deaths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sen. Ossoff is cosponsoring the bipartisan&nbsp;<em>Overcoming Prevalent Inadequacies in Overdose Information Data Sets Act (OPIODS) of 2025&nbsp;<\/em>to help reduce the constraints law enforcement and laboratories across the nation face when collecting integral data on emerging opioid variants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This bipartisan bill, first introduced by Sens. Mike Scott (R-SD) and Peter Welch (D-VT), would help improve the data collection about opioid overdoses and variations, including the authorization of grants to incentivize data collection and sharing, and improve the accuracy of information to support ongoing opioid response.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cToo many Georgians have died or lost loved ones to opioid overdoses. I am cosponsoring this bipartisan legislation to help save lives across the State,\u201d<strong>&nbsp;Sen. Ossoff said.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sen. Ossoff continues working to help Georgia\u2019s communities fight opioid addiction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In August, Sens. Ossoff and Rev. Raphael Warnock&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/sens-ossoff-and-rev-warnock-deliver-900000-to-combat-the-opioid-crisis-in-georgia\/\">announced $900,000<\/a>&nbsp;in Federal funding through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to support efforts across Georgia to fight the opioid crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last December, Sen. Ossoff\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/news-sen-ossoffs-bipartisan-bill-to-crack-down-on-fentanyl-trafficking-at-southern-border-passes-key-senate-committee\/\">passed into law<\/a>\u00a0his bipartisan\u00a0<em>Detection Equipment and Technology Evaluation to Counter the Threat of (DETECT) Fentanyl and Xylazine Act\u00a0<\/em>to require the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate to research and develop technologies that better detect drug trafficking across the southern border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2024, Sen. Ossoff&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/sen-ossoff-strengthening-opioid-addiction-treatment-in-rural-georgia\/\">announced $2.25 million in Federal funding<\/a>&nbsp;to rural health centers through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to help those struggling with substance use disorder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2023, Sen. Ossoff\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/sen-ossoff-delivering-resources-to-prevent-treat-opioid-addiction\/\">delivered $7 million<\/a>\u00a0to the Georgia Criminal Justice Coordinating Council (CJCC) to strengthen Georgia\u2019s response to the opioid epidemic and save lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2022, Sen.
