Ossoff is urging U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Brooke Rollins to reinstate Federal grant funding through the Southeast Crescent Regional Commission\u2019s Childcare Access and Nutrition Systems (CANS) Program to help reduce food insecurity and improve access to childcare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The USDA cooperative agreement, which was canceled earlier this year,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.walb.com\/2024\/11\/08\/dougherty-co-receives-grant-southeast-crescent-regional-commission-usda-rural-development\/\">funded several projects across Southwest Georgia<\/a>, including afterschool programs in Dougherty County, a healthy food facility in a USDA-designated food desert in Upson County, and food pantries in both counties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c[The CANS] Grant Program aimed to advance regional food and childcare systems by supporting local organizations that work towards expanding access to childcare facilities and healthy foods,\u201d&nbsp;<strong>Sen. Ossoff wrote.&nbsp;<\/strong>\u201cThe Department [of Agriculture]\u2019s decision not only hurts Georgians; it directly contradicts the Department\u2019s stated goals of helping rural America thrive, and promoting agricultural production that better nourishes Americans.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sen. Ossoff continues to hold the Trump Administration accountable for the cancellation of critical programs in Georgia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier this month, Sen. Ossoff&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/sen-ossoff-demanding-answers-after-dod-guts-support-for-children-with-special-needs-in-military-schools\/\">demanded answers<\/a>&nbsp;after the Trump Administration gutted support for children with special needs in Department of Defense schools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In August, Sen. Ossoff&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/sen-ossoff-pressing-trump-administration-to-reverse-canceled-grants-that-help-georgians-access-digital-internet-devices\/\">pressed<\/a>&nbsp;the U.S. Department of Commerce to reverse canceled grants that helped underserved communities across Georgia access digital internet devices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In May, Sen.
