Ossoff&nbsp;<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/watch-senate-republicans-block-sen-ossoffs-amendment-to-prevent-cutoff-of-food-aid-to-starving-children-in-war-zones\/\"><em>offered an amendment<\/em><\/a><em>&nbsp;to prevent cutoff of food aid to starving kids in war zones<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Washington, D.C.&nbsp;<\/strong>\u2014 UNICEF is honoring U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff for his work protecting children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This week, UNICEF USA&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unicefusa.org\/press\/unicef-usa-recognizes-four-members-congress-protecting-and-advancing-childrens-rights\">honored<\/a>&nbsp;Sen. Ossoff with one of their 2025 \u201cChampion for Children\u201d Awards for his efforts to protect children, including&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/watch-senate-republicans-block-sen-ossoffs-amendment-to-prevent-cutoff-of-food-aid-to-starving-children-in-war-zones\/\">working to prevent the cutoff of food aid<\/a>&nbsp;to starving children in war zones and his work to protect children in Georgia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since taking office, Sen. Ossoff has passed bipartisan legislation and delivered Federal funding to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/breaking-sen-ossoffs-bipartisan-bill-to-protect-children-from-online-exploitation-signed-into-law\/\">protect children online<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/news-sen-ossoffs-bipartisan-bill-to-protect-children-from-human-traffickers-passes-u-s-senate\/\">combat child trafficking<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/news-sen-ossoffs-bipartisan-bill-to-protect-children-from-online-predators-sexual-exploitation-signed-into-law\/\">protect children from sexual abuse<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/sen-ossoff-delivering-new-resources-to-strengthen-pediatric-health-care\/\">strengthen pediatric health care<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/sen-ossoff-strengthening-access-to-mental-health-counseling-for-georgia-students\/\">expand mental health care for kids<\/a>, and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This summer, Sen. Ossoff&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/watch-senate-republicans-block-sen-ossoffs-amendment-to-prevent-cutoff-of-food-aid-to-starving-children-in-war-zones\/\">offered an amendment<\/a>&nbsp;to protect funding for UNICEF, which runs nutrition programs in 130 countries to reach children in need and brings safe drinking water and sanitation to children in their homes and schools. However, Senate Republicans blocked the amendment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNothing matters more than the safety of children. That\u2019s why I\u2019ve worked in the Senate to protect kids online, investigate child abuse, fight child traffickers, and strengthen pediatric health care. I\u2019m grateful for the extraordinary work of UNICEF USA standing up for kids in America and around the world,\u201d&nbsp;<strong>said Sen. Ossoff continues working to protect children&nbsp;across Georgia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last month, Sen. Ossoff&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/news-sen-ossoffs-bipartisan-bill-to-protect-children-from-human-traffickers-passes-u-s-senate\/\">passed through the Senate<\/a>&nbsp;his bipartisan&nbsp;<em>Preventing Child Trafficking Act of 2025<\/em>&nbsp;to strengthen coordination between the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to prevent child trafficking.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier this year, Sens. Ossoff and Marsha Blackburn (R-TN)&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/sens-ossoff-blackburn-introduce-bipartisan-bill-to-strengthen-support-for-human-trafficking-victims-2\/\">introduced<\/a>&nbsp;the bipartisan&nbsp;<em>Supporting Victims of Human Trafficking Act<\/em>, which would cut red tape to better respond to the needs of service organizations working with victims of human trafficking and create additional flexibility in certain grant programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last year, Sen. Ossoff\u2019s bipartisan&nbsp;<em>REPORT Act<\/em>&nbsp;with Sen. Blackburn&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/breaking-sen-ossoffs-bipartisan-bill-to-protect-children-from-online-exploitation-signed-into-law\/\">became law<\/a>, which \u2014 for the first time \u2014 required websites and social media platforms to report crimes involving Federal trafficking and enticement of children to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last year, Sen. Ossoff&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/sen-ossoff-strengthening-access-to-mental-health-counseling-for-georgia-students\/\">delivered<\/a>&nbsp;over 1.7 million through the&nbsp;<em>Bipartisan Safer Communities Act<\/em>&nbsp;to help hire and train more mental health counselors for students in Georgia schools and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/sen-ossoff-delivering-new-resources-to-strengthen-pediatric-health-care\/\">delivered<\/a>&nbsp;$1,205,656 in&nbsp;Federal funding to help Egleston Children\u2019s Hospital at Emory University train and retain&nbsp;more pediatric&nbsp;physicians.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also last year, Sens. Ossoff and Chuck Grassley (R-IA)\u2019s bipartisan&nbsp;<em>Preventing Child Sex Abuse Act of 2023<\/em>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/news-sen-ossoffs-bipartisan-bill-to-protect-children-from-online-predators-sexual-exploitation-signed-into-law\/\">was signed into law<\/a>&nbsp;to strengthen Federal protections against the sexual abuse of children, including online exploitation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"># # #<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Since taking office, Sen.
