Ossoff Backing Bipartisan Bill to Help Veterans Afford Homes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Washington, D.C.&nbsp;<\/strong>\u2014 U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is backing a bipartisan bill to help veterans afford homeownership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sen. Ossoff is working across the aisle to pass bipartisan legislation he cosponsored to help Georgia veterans afford homes.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<em>VA Home Loan Awareness Act&nbsp;<\/em>would require lenders Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to inform veterans about their potential eligibility for home loan benefits through the VA. These disclosures must be added to the application following the question about military service to ensure veterans can see their housing financing options before signing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This bipartisan legislation was first introduced by Sens. Tim Sheehy (R-MT) and Chris Van Hollen (D-MD).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe VA Home Loan program is considered one of the most valuable earned benefits available to veterans, yet far too many veterans are unaware of the benefits available to them,\u201d&nbsp;<strong>Sen. Ossoff said.<\/strong>&nbsp;\u201cThis bipartisan bill will ensure veterans are fully informed of their earned benefits to help access homeownership.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sen. Ossoff continues working across the aisle to ensure Georgia\u2019s veterans can access their benefits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier this month, Sen. Ossoff launched a push&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/sen-ossoff-pushing-bipartisan-bill-supporting-georgias-combat-wounded-veterans\/\">to pass the bipartisan&nbsp;<em>Major Richard Star Act<\/em><\/a>, legislation he co-sponsored that would allow servicemembers who medically retired before 20 years of service to collect retirement pay from the Department of Defense (DoD) and disability payments from the VA at the same time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In August, Sens. Ossoff and John Kennedy (R-LA) introduced the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/sens-ossoff-kennedy-introduce-bipartisan-bill-to-support-disabled-veterans-small-businesses\/\"><em>Service-Disabled Veteran Opportunities in Small Business Act<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;to help disabled veterans\u2019 small businesses thrive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In May, Sen. Ossoff&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wrdw.com\/2025\/05\/16\/ossoff-pushes-restore-program-protecting-veterans-foreclosure\/\">held a press conference<\/a>&nbsp;with Georgia Marine Corps veteran Samuel McCrary from Loganville, Georgia, to urge the Trump Administration to reverse its decision to cancel the VASP program and help Georgia veterans avoid foreclosure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This February, Sens. Ossoff and Susan Collins (R-ME) introduced the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/sens-ossoff-collins-introduce-bipartisan-bill-to-help-veterans-in-rural-areas-get-to-the-va\/\"><em>Rural Veterans Transportation to Care Act<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;to help more veterans in rural areas get transportation to VA health facilities and access the health care benefits they\u2019ve earned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In January, Sen. Ossoff&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/sen-ossoff-announces-expanded-va-health-benefits-for-georgia-veterans-through-bipartisan-pact-act\/\">announced<\/a>&nbsp;more Georgia veterans are now eligible for VA health care under the&nbsp;<em>PACT Act<\/em>, which expanded VA health care for thousands of veterans, including those battling bladder cancer, ureter cancer, other genitourinary cancers, acute and chronic leukemias, and multiple myeloma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last year, Sen.
