Ossoff Pushing to Protect Children\u2019s Online Privacy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Washington, D.C.&nbsp;<\/strong>\u2014 U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is demanding answers after the cancellation of a program that protects kids\u2019 privacy online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sen. Ossoff recently joined colleagues urging the Trump Administration to reverse funding cuts to the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), a key agency tasked with coordinating cybersecurity programs in Georgia and across the U.S. and responsible for leading and improving cybersecurity protection across local, state and Federal governments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sen. Ossoff and the group also urged the Administration to reverse the suspension of the K-12 Cybersecurity Government Coordinating Council at the Department of Education responsible for collaborating with state and local education systems to share resources and information around cybersecurity threats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEliminating these resources makes school systems more vulnerable to what would\u2019ve been preventable threats under proper guidance and support,\u201d&nbsp;<strong>Sen. Ossoff and the group wrote.&nbsp;<\/strong>\u201cStudents, faculty, and staff at K-12 schools should never have to fear that their personal safety and privacy is at risk. The federal government has a responsibility to protect high-risk sectors that are increasingly susceptible to cyberattacks, especially when the primary individuals at risk are minors.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sen. Ossoff continues working to protect children online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In July, Sen. Ossoff cosponsored the bipartisan&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/sen-ossoff-working-to-pass-bipartisan-legislation-to-protect-children-online\/\"><em>Kids Online Safety Act<\/em><\/a>, which would impose new requirements on digital platforms to protect children from being targeted online with harmful content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In May, Sen. Ossoff&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/sen-ossoff-working-across-the-aisle-to-protect-kids-privacy-online\/\">cosponsored<\/a>&nbsp;the bipartisan&nbsp;<em>Children and Teens\u2019 Online Privacy Protection Act<\/em>&nbsp;(COPPA 2.0) to limit use of children\u2019s information for individually targeted advertising.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2024, Sen. Ossoff\u2019s bipartisan\u00a0<em>REPORT Act<\/em>\u00a0with Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN)\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/breaking-sen-ossoffs-bipartisan-bill-to-protect-children-from-online-exploitation-signed-into-law\/\">became law<\/a>, which \u2014 for the first time \u2014 requires websites and social media platforms to report crimes involving Federal trafficking and enticement of children to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).
