Washington, D.C.<\/strong> \u2014 U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is working across the aisle to lower taxes for Georgia nurses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sen. Ossoff is working to bring Republicans and Democrats together in Congress to pass the bipartisan Nurse Corps Tax Parity Act,<\/em> which would cut taxes for nurses who join the Federal Nurse Corps \u2013 a national program aimed at delivering health care services in rural communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Nurse Corps program offers scholarships and loan repayments for health care providers in exchange for service in these areas; however, scholarships and loan forgiveness are currently subjected to Federal income taxes. The bipartisan Nurse Corps Tax Parity Act<\/em> would ensure nurses who serve in the Nurse Corps program do not have to pay Federal income tax on student loan repayment and scholarships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bipartisan bill was first introduced by Senators Roger Wicker (R-MS) and Jeff Merkley (D-OR).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI want to make it easier and more attractive for health care professionals to come and serve the people of Georgia,\u201dSen. Ossoff said.<\/strong> \u201cAll Georgians deserve world-class health care, which is why I\u2019m working to bring Republicans and Democrats together to lower taxes for Georgia nurses.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sen. Ossoff has long worked to strengthen access to health care for Georgia families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This summer, Sen. Ossoff offered an amendment<\/a> during the Senate\u2019s budget debate to extend key Affordable Care Act tax credits, without which Georgians would see giant increases in health care costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In April of 2024, Sen. Ossoff announced Federal funding<\/a> toward the construction a new, state-of-the-art hospital in Ringgold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That same month, Sen. Ossoff announced Federal funding to upgrade<\/a> Emory University\u2019s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) with new equipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2023, Sens. Ossoff and Rev. Warnock secured bipartisan support in Congress<\/a> to help build a new instructional facility at Brewton-Parker College in Mount Vernon to expand the college\u2019s nursing workforce development program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2022, Sen. Ossoff brought Republicans and Democrats in Congress together to strengthen health care services across the state, including delivering a new mobile mammography unit<\/a> in Northwest Georgia; helping build a new emergencytrauma helipad in Gainesville<\/a>; expanding transportation options<\/a> to Crisp Regional Hospital in Cordele; building a new wing of Fort Valley\u2019s CareConnect facility<\/a>; and delivering new MRI machines<\/a> to Augusta University Medical Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
