Ossoff Demands Answers on Report That CDC Program to Prevent Fentanyl Overdoses Has Been Frozen"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Washington, D.C.&nbsp;<\/strong>\u2014 U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff released the following statement in response to an&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2025\/07\/16\/nx-s1-5468535\/fentanyl-trump-addiction-funding\">NPR report<\/a>&nbsp;that the Trump Administration has frozen funding for the CDC\u2019s efforts to prevent fentanyl overdoses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere isn\u2019t a family or community in Georgia that hasn\u2019t been touched by the fentanyl crisis. Georgia\u2019s CDC is doing vital work to save lives and prevent fentanyl overdoses. If this report is accurate, I call on the administration to unfreeze CDC efforts to prevent fentanyl deaths.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2025\/07\/16\/nx-s1-5468535\/fentanyl-trump-addiction-funding\">According to NPR<\/a>, the Trump Administration has delayed and \u201cmay cancel\u201d $140 million in grants through the CDC\u2019s Overdose Data to Action (OD2A) program to fund fentanyl overdose response efforts across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sen. Ossoff has long worked to combat the fentanyl epidemic and prevent deadly drugs from coming across the border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last December, Sen. Ossoff\u2019s bipartisan bill to crack down on fentanyl trafficking across the Southern Border&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/sen-ossoffs-bipartisan-bill-to-crack-down-on-fentanyl-trafficking-at-southern-border-signed-into-law\/\">was signed into law<\/a>&nbsp;to strengthen the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS)\u2019s capacity to detect fentanyl and xylazine at ports of entry and better prevent it from crossing the border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last fall, Sens. Ossoff and Marsha Blackburn (R-TN)&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/new-senate-bipartisan-border-bill-introduced-wake-trump-election-victory\">introduced<\/a>&nbsp;the bipartisan&nbsp;<em>Border Smuggling Crackdown Act<\/em>&nbsp;to strengthen Federal prosecution of human smugglers and protect innocent victims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last spring, the Sen. Ossoff-backed bipartisan&nbsp;<em>Fentanyl Eradication and Narcotics Deterrence (FEND) Off Fentanyl Act<\/em>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/sen-ossoffs-bipartisan-bill-to-crack-down-on-fentanyl-trafficking-at-southern-border-signed-into-law\/\">became law<\/a>, which will sanction drug cartels and combat money laundering by the criminal organizations involved in drug trafficking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2022, Sen.
