Average Georgia family of 4 with 2 kids could see health premiums rise by over $2,000 per year without Sen. Ossoff\u2019s amendment<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Washington, D.C. <\/strong>\u2014 U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff\u2019s amendment to stop Georgians\u2019 health insurance premiums from increasing was blocked by Senate Republicans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sen. Ossoff offered an amendment<\/a> during the Senate\u2019s budget debate to extend key Affordable Care Act tax credits, without which Georgians would see giant increases in health care costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Georgians for a Healthy Future,<\/a> if the ACA tax credits expire \u2014 as they would in the GOP\u2019s bill \u2014 over 1 million Georgians could see their premiums increase next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution<\/em><\/a>, over 300,000 Georgians who have health care through the ACA could lose insurance altogether because they won’t be able to afford the increase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, Sen. Ossoff\u2019s amendment to stop Georgians\u2019 health insurance premiums from increasing was blocked by Senate Republicans<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cInstead of adding trillions to the debt in tax cuts for the rich while destroying Medicaid and renewable energy, I propose we help our constituents afford health insurance,\u201d Sen. Ossoff said. <\/strong>\u201cIf we allow Affordable Care Act benefits to expire \u2014 as this bill would \u2014 more than a million Georgians will pay more for health insurance next year.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Estimates show<\/a> an average family of 4 in Georgia with 2 kids would see an increase of thousands of dollars in health insurance without the ACA credit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
