Washington, D.C.<\/strong> \u2014 U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff today secured a commitment from the U.S. Air Force to help Moody Air Force Base prepare for the new F-35A fighter jet mission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sen. Ossoff, Ranking Member of the U.S. Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Military Construction, today held a hearing about funding priorities for military construction projects and highlighted key projects in Georgia, including upgrades needed to prepare Moody for the next F-35A fighter mission<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sen. Ossoff serves as the top Democrat on the Military Construction Appropriations Subcommittee, positioning him to fight for and deliver Federal funding for key Georgia projects impacting national security, military readiness, quality-of-life for servicemembers and military families, and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the hearing, Sen. Ossoff spoke with Lieutenant General Tom D. Miller<\/a>, Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics, Engineering, and Force Protection for the United States Air Force, and raised the importance of Moody AFB to Valdosta, the State of Georgia, and the entire nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cGeneral Miller, thank you again for being here and thank you for our conversation yesterday as well. I think you are aware last August, I had the pleasure of hosting the Air Force Chief of Staff, General Allvin, in Georgia. We visited several installations, including Moody Air Force Base in Valdosta, and man, are the people of Valdosta proud of and supportive of Moody,\u201d Ranking Member Ossoff said.<\/strong> \u201cMayor Matheson, Dr. Lucy Greene of Moody Support Group. I mean, that is a base community that just loves hosting the Air Force and provides so much support for the Airmen and the civilians who work on and around the base, and they are thrilled that Moody has been selected to host the F-35 with the A-10s leaving the force.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCritical infrastructure upgrades are already on the way to prepare the installation for that transition. You and I discussed this yesterday, and here in this public setting, I\u2019d like your commitment again that you will work closely with me, with the Subcommittee, with the community in Valdosta to ensure that the base is prepared and successful to swiftly bring those aircraft to Georgia,\u201d Ranking Member Ossoff continued.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sen. Ossoff secured Lieutenant General Miller\u2019s commitment to work with him, the Subcommittee, the community, and Moody leadership to ensure the base is prepared and successful in receiving this new mission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sen. Ossoff continues working to support Moody AFB.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2023, Sen. Ossoff delivered<\/a> over $1 million in Federal resources to plan and design upgrades for the 41st Rescue Squadron\u2019s helicopter infrastructure and the 23rd Security Forces and the 38th Rescue Squadron\u2019s ops centers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sen. Ossoff also delivered<\/a> $861,025 in Federal resources through the Defense Community Infrastructure Program (DCIP) to connect Moody AFB to Lowndes County\u2019s public drinking water system, strengthening military families\u2019 access to clean and safe drinking water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
